critique by Mrs J Pratt
Open Dog 4 (0) 1. Sneddon and Booths Ch Culseandanes Tyrion the Imp A strong fawn dog full bodied and all male. He had a super outline and it showed well in the line-up. Pleasing head with good breadth of muzzle that was in line with the skull with dark eye. Good expression and he used his ears to advantage. Strong neck flowing into well laid shoulder placement, well filled front, well boned and nice tight feet. Pleasing width and breadth of brisket with substance, firm topline, strong short loin into good croup placement and turn of stifle. He moved the best in this class. His overall balance, flowing lines and standing foursquare could not deny him the CC.

We are still top dog for another few days!!!!

DOG LOVERS SHOW SCOTLAND AT SECC

Once again we went of to DOG LOVER SHOW GLASGOW this time the Great Danes where there in co-junction with Scottish Great Dane rescue.

We took 6 dogs 2 of which were puppies over 2 days and we managed to gain a double stall this year with loads of room for the Danes to have a rest when they wanted just like last year when we took them out every hour to rest and chill.  This time we didn't have to take them out as the stall was big enough for them to rest and play.

Robin and co did themselves proud once again and we shall be attending in 2020 once again hopefully with other colours as it isn't just fawn that is out there.

Buckets yes Buckets of water were available at all times for them.

Our star of last year Tyrion was acting the big Uncle this year to his sisters puppies and they all played and rested together.

The two puppies Maggie and Jules were the star attraction for the crowds and we carefully lifted them for the public. No one was allowed to lift or carry them as they are very much like human babies and can get sore. They met humans and dogs alike and they interacted beautifully with all. These puppies are very confident as the general public saw on both days. We also took our cues from them and they went of and rested and played equally. The most chilled out puppies ever.

People came far and wide to talk about the breed and the main questions

1 What do they eat daily?
2 Do they need a lot of exercise?
3 Where do you sleep?

my answers were not a lot, no and anywhere they like.

We did the parade with Cersei on Saturday and all the boys and the puppies on the Sunday

Our compare "Tam" from Still Game said
"the big dugs are here"

So we tried to educate people on Great Danes and I think we did a grand job on it too.
we told them all to research, research, research and then research again and never to buy any dog on a whim never mind a Great Dane.

I was asked about exercise a lot and folks this is a GIANT BREED no they don't go hiking daily they are now companion dogs plus if you put in the training they'll love you forever for it.

Yes they were used for boar hunting in the past and can be powerful but if you show them your the boss they soon know they are part of a team and will take their cues from you.

Do come along next year at
DOG LOVER SHOW SCOTLAND AT
SECC ONCE AGAIN IN
2020
WE WILL BE THERE IN SOME SHAPE OR FORM

All dogs are mine and I bred them all. I am an ethical breeder and take mine back at any age for whatever reason regardless.

These are healthy dogs and puppies and our aim is to not have a rescue if all breeders took back or helped owners in the rehome of their Danes life would be so much better.

phantoms in our bitches

well any bitch really?

well as you all know by now I breed and show most of my dogs or I have handlers for that as well.

I have just not long bred a lovely litter of fawns and get them right for my clients and I'm thrown a curve ball.

Pups are all 8 weeks and of to their homes and one is just settling in and wham their older puppy is having a phantom and its the usual don't let her have the toys and be firm with her and get her to the vets if she's over filled with milk.

Theres me thinking nothing of it, till I get a message from my clients that there own dog was having a full on phantom but she wasn't having just a phantom but a full psychosis and thought the pup was hers now I have heard of nicking and hoarding toys but not to outright nick of with a baby.

Well this was a turn up for the books as I've never heard a bitch doing this. I of course stay in contact as they'd seen a behaviourist whom told my clients to return the pup
I'm eh no that'll make the bitch ten times worse and could in fact bring on PND . Thankfully they didn't and worked through it and are still working through it all.

So if you have a bitch under a year or an un spay one I will not allow the pup to go or you have to spay your bitch so this doesn't happen or lessen the chances of it and your poor older bitch is fraught with confusing thoughts on what the hell is happening to her.

I am still in contact with my clients to this day and will do so as I was very concerned about their older dog because for me it was personal being through it myself as a human. Not knowing what the day would be like, hence having a little understanding of it for her but never thinking a young bitch would have a psychosis ever. As they say its always a school day.

my consensus is do not return the puppy unless she is attacking him or her,  why because you'll cause PND this can be mild to severe,  but work through the problem and take action such as

no strangers near both

walk both separately

walk together after a few weeks but in places your bitch knows

spay your bitch as soon as possible if old enough.

Trip to the vets if needed as in galastop for the milk

Do not scold her for what she thinks is natural other than stopping the pup from latching on to boobs

allow them together if she'll allow it  for play sessions

take it a day at a time and stay in contact with both your breeders if at all possible.

So I learnt that dogs too can have a full on psychosis just like humans.
