CHECKLIST FOR SOCIALISATION
Introduction to Handling

Now this is a checklist of what you should do
The first thing is to get the pup to know her name and the word no.
· Pulling the collar (gotcha) Still needs this as a just in case.
· Grabbing other parts of the body gently.
· Wiping body with a fannel,
· Putting on a halt or dogmatic. Do this by treating over days and weeks.
Introducing Unfamiliar People such as,
· Women
· Tall men
· Men with deep voices
· Men with beards
· Elderly
· People wearing hats, helmets
· People wearing boots/shoes/sandals
· People wearing hoodies up and down
· People wearing rucksacks
· People wearing glasses and sunglasses
· Teenagers
· Children standing as well as playing
· Toddlers (walking and squealing)
· People running by
Introducing Unfamiliar dogs such as,
· Dogs that play well
· With puppies who play well and do not get over excited.
Other animal species such as,
· Cats
· Any type of pets you may have
New surfaces such as,
· Concrete
· Slippery floors such as lino and wooden floors
· Metal surfaces such as manhole, vet scales
· Wobbly surfaces, wobbly board. Unbalanced branch.
· Wet grass
· Mud
· Ice, Frost or snow
Scary sounds
These don’t have to be real as in real life but done on a CD so you are in control all the time for your pet.
· Thunder
· Fireworks
· Babies and kids
· Alarms
· Dog Barking
· Doorbell ringing
· Traffic
· Hoovers
· Sirens

Introducing Objects with wheels such as,
· Skateboards
· Rollerblades
· Bins outside
· Buggy’s and prams
· Wheel chairs
· Bikes
· Cars
· Motorbikes
Man made objects
· Pots and pans
· Blankets or rugs being shaken
· Brooms
· Umbrellas
· Bags blowing in the wind
· Bins indoors
· Large plastic bins outside
· Metal pans or other metal surfaces
New environments
· Shopping mall outside
· Outside the supermarket
· In a busy town or city
· Train station in the morning and lunchtime and evening if you can.
· Dog friendly event
Do remember if your dog is frightened at all return home and try again. Do this all slowly and you shall reap the benefits. Remember the socialisation of introducing to others dogs and people daily so they do not become scared.
Training classes in your area can be a god send or even one to one training also which can benefit the novice owner.

So positive treat based training helps a lot as the pic above is my 16 year old at a show and this is a stance they do and this takes a lot of training which my lad did with Loki.
