Am I the right breeder for you.

Ok here goes

I personally do a lot of things before I let anyone in the door. Ask my owners.  I have a questionnaire I do and its long and might be added to or lessened maybe not sure on that one. No one has refused to fill it in either and yes I have been told its American.

I also do an open day to come and meet the pooches before pups are there so they can meet mum and dad if he is here most likely he isn't as we out source our dogs (males). Pictures are available though of him and a lot of information on his background including temperament.

Now the reason behind the open day is to see how big our Danes get and some do and only one guy said oh I didn't realise and he ended up with a lab and was very happy after I directed him to someone else. Also for their temperament and interaction to others.

I ask for newbies to do some research as well on the breed. I also do tell folks the biggest killer for Danes is bloat and DCM. I don't sugarcoat it. There are others I list as well and I have to say as far as bloat none for mine but never say never.

DCM only one had that and he was an old man and it does come with age too.

I am now in the process of going through Liverpool Vet School to have my over 4's tested for this disease. This will be my own peace of mind and to help the research that has been on going.

My home isn't the cleanest it is lived in I do have children and dogs after all. I will say this it doesn't smell though unless it dinner time hahaha!!!!

Now back too the pooches when I do have a litter we lock the house down for 4 weeks and then one person can come visit or we stagger it so mum isn't overwhelmed as these are her babies after all.

Now code of practise is pet mum first and then ask her to pet the baby of choice. If mum has been removed because she is a bit upset she will be brought in away from babies for a meet and greet as I always let new owners see mum.

She the mummy dog likes treats and I always get children to do a side on pet to them. If a young one gentle hands from them and a rub under her chin. Or we get the kids to ignore till mum comes to them. It depends on the person at the time but I am not to bad at reading the situation.

Please do not think she is starved by the way she is meant to be thin not overly thin but she is feeding round the clock for the first 3-4 weeks. She is being fed double sometime triple her usual amounts of food. Usually at the 4 week mark mum has put on some weight but folks do think ooh she's thin.

Please also remember some puppies might have fleas or mites these are treatable also they may have nappy rash (there is a term for it but easier calling it this) they wee and it splashes them again treatable and nothing to worry over.

Puppies are born with worms and worming is done by me at 2,5 and 8 weeks and then monthly after that by the new owners.

I am available at any time.  I take my dogs back its even written in my contracts. Yes, I do contracts and a huge puppy booklet for all. This is personal to me of course.
Kids things cos this family had 3 kids in it and,
one was getting to show her dog too.
The rest of the puppy pack.
Oh and the green thing is a wash mitt very handy for a Great Dane.

Now below is a list of what I do it is on the blog. The first part is what we do before the pups leave. Also have a gander round as there is a lot more on here to look at with the things I do other than showing of course.

So there you go, Am I the right breeder for you

Dogs and Children how to read them both.

I have obscured the children's faces as they are not my children. They also do not need to see this as adults as the internet is forever.

Do you find these pictures cute.

I don't I find them very, very dangerous and setting up your dog to bite and yes if you hurt them by squeezing that bit to hard or sitting on them they will bite it is their only way to tell you to back off after all. So what happens then if that happens well this is what happens the dog is PTS thats what because you will hear he hasn't done that before.

This gives an idea of the way dogs act and if you are a dog owner you will I hope know the signs.

Parents please take heed it will save your child's life and your dogs.

I teach children how to be gentle with dogs

Never ever approach a dog you don't know.
Never ever approach a dog without permission.
Never at a dog show run when there is a lot of dogs about, some can get spooked or some think it's a game and will give chase. Think on a big dog thinking it's a game and small child will be knocked over and hurt?
Never ever run at a dog even if you know it well.

Ask the dog to as in a small fist not tight and side on hand down and let the dog approach if they don't do not force it. If the owner forces the dog do not pet as then the dog will think of you as the enemy and a lot of parents do this sadly not realising it can be dangerous. They also think the pics above are cute and funny well sorry no they are not.

I have been in houses with Danes that have thrown themselves at me because of fear nothing else I side step and ignore. Yes, its damn frightening but I know dog body language. I have learnt over the years of owning dogs and taking classes.

Still not at the level I want but yes I could be called a dog trainer,  but I see myself as more a dog/person helper.

I have been bitten once only and it was my own stupid fault not the dogs involved. Yes, it has made me wary as it should.

The reason for this is in the media there is a lot of dogs bitting and folks are saying its unprovoked. Sorry a dog doesn't bite for no reason. It could be nervous, frightened, even provoked unseen by you.

Also when introducing a baby to the dog do so slowly please. When pregnant make a CD of a baby crying not just when hungry but upset, cold you know the works to acclimatise the dog to the sounds so they are normal. If the dog gets upset in any way calm them and treat. Do this early on as a dog that isn't used to this, will freak out when a baby cries and thinks it's the enemy and needs dealing with sadly. Supervise at all times and never ever leave a baby with the dog ever. Accidents can happen. It only takes a second remember.

Set up the pram and tell the dog to leave or down beside it.
Bouncers set up with a doll before baby comes and do the say and say leave or down.

Once baby is mobile make sure dog has an escape route to retreat too and don't let baby corner the dog either again supervise at all times.

Teach your toddler gentle hands it will take some time but they will get it. Again supervise any play sessions.

So the moral of my tale is this, supervise,  supervise, supervise.
