Raw Feeding: Liver amounts for your Dane

My ratios are for Danes. 20kgs is an 8 weeker. If late to the game please go steady to begin with and build to the right amounts.

10% of offal meat is required. Half of that is liver which is listed below to make it simpler for you all. I know how confusing it can be when starting out.

This is for a Dane on 2.5% daily amount.
Liver is essential for the dogs diet for vitaminA.
Please do not go over these amounts because overloading on vitaminA as it isn't pretty hence the small amounts given.

Now for our beginners do so in small amounts and if not keen mix in other foods. They will get it one day and eat a slab of it if desired. I have 1 that was not keen at all so it was mixed in other things for about 2-3 months. Now loves it. I feed in the beginning daily but slowly taper of to 3 times a week.
If getting bags of offal from suppliers do not worry over the 80-10-10 ratios and bone content. The back end is a better source to see how everything is. If your dog gets the runs at all lower the dosage and keep trying to upped it as he or she gets older.

So for liver alone it’s only a pound bag for a 50kg Dane and for your bigger ones its 2-pound bags so can be easily divided over the week for pooches.
Do keep an eye on the back end though because if you over do it you will get an exploding bottom and yes I have been there and it isn't pleasant.

Oodles

It's in news and on social media about mongrels well some call them designer breeds.

Is there a rise of them for the general public do they actually know what they are getting in the way of a pup. Are the breeders actually bare face lying to them. you'll be saying but all breeders lie no we don't we give you information that is relevant to the breed we are selling on, well ethical ones do.

My question is why?

Two breeds in one.

You'll get they are healthier no they are not your bringing in both health issues in to one breed and the nightmare for a groomer well..........

So will they health test both parents and at what cost.

Take the Labradoodles for instance

Labs
eye tests
hips and elbows
CNM
EIC
to name a few

Poodles
eye tests
hip and elbows
vWD
to name a few again

This is from both dogs and should be done before a mating even takes place would you because most don't and put the dogs together for the pet market because this is what they want, oodles regardless of the welfare of the parents and the pups born.

plus the size you cant determine at all they don't shed yeah they do all dogs do regardless of breed even poodles do and I know some say they don't but they do,  it's unpredictable and full of what the hell have I taken on.

So over to you why oodles?

How common is it to force feed your dog

How common is it?

How many in the dog world are having to help their dog to eat as they refuse for whatever reason?

Did your vet recommend force feeding?

Did you decide yourself as you'd had enough of no eating and changing the food ALL the time and making it worse for yourself not the dog as he or she is just very confused?

Was there any reason for stopping eat. Health scares, cancers, pregnancy, whelping, seasons affecting both the bitch and dog to name a few.

Small dogs would have to be syringed every 2/4 hours because of size in very small amounts.

Medium to large its small handfuls of their food and slide (hopefully) down their gullet if needed.

Rule of thumb for me was the tried and tested 24 hours rule of no food as we raw feed.  if that doesn't work its bone broth, then minced chicken, turkey.

I never ever leave food for them,  for one there is too many for that. It's removed after 20 minutes and offered again at the next meal.

If going this route please do a well check at your vet first to rule out anything.

Then if nothing proceed to help them to eat. Usually, its hand feeding but some need that extra help and its to back of the throat gently and tip head back and rub the throat area. Yes, this may take time but the effort is so worth it as they are getting their daily requirements.

Do not think for one moment you're at fault here some dogs test our patience and we need them to eat.

Some dog's its a vicious cycle and they don't feel hungry and can end up anorexic, more so after surgery, it can take them a while to want to eat normally if at all for some.

Feed their normal amounts 2/3 times a day make time for a quiet spot to feed. Don't mither either and be a matter of fact over it. Take your time more so for large breeds as they are deep chested.

I have bitches that refuse food and I leave for a few days as my lassies are slight and can't afford to lose too much so I try bone broth and minces then the hand feeding first then down the hatch. I can usually tell now if any are going to stop and I have my methods and food to hand.

So how common is it and what method did you try in the end?

Summer has landed

Well, the weather has heated up here in Scotland and by gum it's warm. Heres hoping it's last.

What do you do when it's hot?

I hear the usual fans on, water/pop in hand or some its the wine after a day at work, but I mean your dogs, not you.

fans.
water.
paddling pools.
sprays.
cool coats and mats.

We use them all.

Ever few hours sometimes every hour its the spray on for them. Our mantle boy loves to paddle and splash his belly in the warmer months and his daughter has followed suit.

This is when its harder to walk them safely as its too warm for their feet to be on the pavements here as it's way too hot. So we either do early morning or late at night.

Its the same when feeding them all early and late they don't mind as long as they get fed. Well we are their feeders after all and they can't just pop out for lunch in the supermarket or the nearest sheep field think someone would say something.

if you are warm your dog will be warmer. Don't take them out in the hot weather that's just bloody cruel. Leave them home with the fans on.

if a dog show-er you know that all the windows open are a must and fans on in the back. We do this too and they are watered ALL the time. We do many pits stops on the way to shows when it's warm. Van is parked in the shade once we arrive.

So how do you all manage the weather with your 4 legged pet?
